Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has expressed gratitude to President William Ruto for the development progress in the Nyanza region.

In a statement shared on his official X account on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, Kaluma commended the president for the infrastructural improvements in the region, noting that past administrations had long marginalized it.

He specifically lauded the government’s decision to hold the upcoming Madaraka Day celebrations at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

“Raila Odinga Stadium-Homa Bay (ROSH) will be ready to host Madaraka Day Celebrations, 2025," said Kaluma.

“Thank you, President @WilliamsRuto, for the developments you are bringing to our land after long years of marginalization by past regimes."

This year’s Madaraka Day celebrations will focus on the theme of the Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs.

On Thursday, February 27, 2025, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo announced that plans are in progress to expand and upgrade Kabunde Airstrip, along with key road infrastructure in the region.

He also chaired a meeting of the National Celebrations Steering Committee, engaging local leaders, including Governor Gladys Wanga and Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, in discussions about the event preparations.

Meanwhile, Raila Odinga Stadium is undergoing renovations in preparation for hosting the celebrations.

Earlier this month, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya revealed that the project, costing Sh500 million, is set for completion by May 20, 2025.

The upgrades include constructing new terraces around the main pitch, increasing the seating capacity to 10,000.

To ensure the stadium meets national event standards, the national government, in collaboration with the Homa Bay County government, is spearheading its expansion.
