Kenya Sevens Head Coach Kevin Wambua believes that the side has evolved and improved despite the results not showing otherwise.

He is hopeful that their hard work will pay off.

The Sevens boys are in Singapore this weekend for the penultimate leg of the World Sevens Series season following last week's outing in Hong Kong, where they finished tenth overall.

The standings make for grim reading for the Kenya Sevens.

Shujaa finished tenth on the log in Hong Kong following a 19-17 loss to South Africa in the ninth place final Sunday.

The tenth place finish ensured that Shujaa collected only three points in the series and maintain their ninth place on the log.

It also means that they will be forced to go through the playoffs to retain their place in the HSBC Sevens Series for the 2025/26 season.

With only 18 points on the table, Shujaa will not be able to collect enough points to overtake the Great Britain who are above them and have 38 points even if they win the Singapore leg, a virtual impossibility considering their form this season.

Wambua, though, chooses to look at the positives instead.

"Hong Kong was bittersweet for us. However, there was a big improvement from Vancouver. We did not achieve our set goals for the tournament, but we were competitive in all the games we played,” Wambua said.

"Our three losses were by under seven points, which is something we can build on as we prepare for Singapore and, of course, the big one in LA.”

The Singapore leg of the series takes place this weekend, 4-6 April 2025.

Shujaa are already in Singapore ahead of the tournament.

In Singapore, Shujaa are placed in group B together with France and Ireland. They lost to France in Hong Kong and are above Ireland in the standings. It should make for an interesting group.

If Kenya are able to get past the French, a Cup quarterfinal and semi will be on the cards.

Following Singapore, the final leg of the series will take place in Los Angeles where the list of attendees for the upcoming season will be known.
