Kip Keino Classic: Omanyala loses to Australian Lachlan in 100m race

Australian Kennedy Lachlan won the race in a time of 9.98 seconds, a big win for the lanky Ausi who secured a personal best as a result.
It was a disappointing afternoon for Kenya's Ferdinand Omanyala after mustering third place in the 100 Metres race at the Kip Keino Classic at the Ulinzi Stadium in Nairobi, Saturday afternoon.
Australian Kennedy Lachlan won the race in a time of 9.98 seconds, a big win for the lanky Ausi who secured a personal best as a result.
South Africa's Bayanda Wazala, who was also making his debut on Kenyan soil settled for second place in 10.03, as Omanyala came third in 10.07, wrapping up the podium place.
Kenya's Mark Otieno Odhiambo finished sixth.
It was a win on his debut for the extremely happy Lachlan who said he was extremely proud to be able to race in Nairobi with the likes of Omanyala and Wazala.
"This is a dream debut for me. A win on my first race here in Kenya is unbelievable. I'm very happy. I have worked hard all year so I'm not surprised by this win. The atmosphere was fantastic and the competition was excellent," he said in the aftermath of his win.
"Omanyala beat me in China and I've won here. It's an honour to race against these two great athletes."
In the women's 100, pre-race favourite Maia McCoy won in a time of 11.21.
The American-Liberian took first place ahead of her counterpart Destiny Smith Barnett, who clocked 11.29, a season's best.
Egypt's Bassant Hemida was third, crossing home in a time of 11.49 also a season's best.
The Kenyan duo of Milicent Ndoro and Doreen Waka finished as the bottom two.
