Omanyala comes second in Botswana, Simbine runs fastest time of the year

Simbine became the second man to break 10 seconds this year in the 100m behind Australian sprinter Gout Gout.
Kenya's sprint sensation Ferdinand Omanyala could only manage second place in Botswana, finishing behind rival Akani Simbine during the Botswana Athletics Grand Prix Saturday evening.
Simbine, fresh from winning his first individual global medal at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing China, clocked a world-leading time of 9.90s to win, while Omanyala managed 10.00s at the FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix, which is a Continental Tour event on the African athletics calendar.
Omanyala finished ahead of Mlenga Retshidisitswe from South Africa, who clocked 10.15s for third, whereas his Kenyan compatriot Mark Otieno finished fourth with 10.22.
Simbine became the second man to break 10 seconds this year in the 100m behind Australian sprinter Gout Gout.
The teenager clocked 9.99 seconds in the under-20 100 metres heat before recording the same time in the final at the Australian Athletics Championships in Perth.
The two men as well as other athletes are gearing up towards the World Athletics Championships that will take place this year September in Tokyo Japan.
In the 200 metres, Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo beat the rest of the field to take first place with a time of 20.23 seconds.
Botswana also dominated the 400 metres for men with Bayapo Ndori coming top with a time of 44.35.
Kenyan interest continued in the 800 metres men's race, which saw Kenya's Laban Kipkorir come third with a time of 1.45.38. Botswana's Kethobogile Haingura won the race with a time of 1.44.18.
In the women's segment, Sarah Moraa finished second with a time of 1.59.46, behind home favourite Oratile Nowe, who clocked 1.58.96 to come out top.
