Following a flawless display over two days, South Africa 'A' are the 2025 Rugby Africa Men’s 7s Champions after a 28-12 win over Madagascar in an entertaining final played in Mauritius, Sunday afternoon.
South Africa's Ricardo Duarttee scored early to take a 7-0 lead. They then doubled their advantage through Mfundo Ndhlovu to make it 14-0.
Madagascar responded to reduce the deficit to 14-7, but the South Africans restored their 14-point cushion just before halftime when a sharp offload on the right wing released Duarttee, who added his second.
He added the extras for a 21-7 halftime lead.
Madagascar were first to score in the second half through Ranaivoarison Herilala, narrowing the gap to 21-12 but the South Africans would not be denied as they sealed the win when Grant de Jager latched onto an offload and powered over the line, with Duarttee adding the conversion to complete a 28-12 victory.
Congratulations to South Africa!
Kenya lost 21-19 to Zimbabwe to finish fourth in the tournament, an improvement from the sixth they could afford last time out.
