State House visit caps excellent season for Kenya Police football teams

Following their record breaking Kenya Premier League title succeses, President William Ruto Tuesday hosted a celebratory breakfast at State House Nairobi, honoring the double triumph of the Kenya Police football clubs.
The event recognized Kenya Police FC’s historic victory as the 2024/2025 Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions and also celebrated the success of their female counterparts, Kenya Police Bullets FC, who clinched the Women’s Premier League title two weeks ago.
Police made history by securing their first-ever men’s Premier League title, edging Gor Mahia by six points, a feat achieved after a season that saw them rise from a bad start to dominate the league. They only lost four matches all season.
Their excellence culminated in clinching the KPL title with a game to spare, finishing with 65 points, and ending Gor Mahia’s league dominance.
Complementing this success, Kenya Police Bullets FC also emerged victorious in the Women’s Premier League, solidifying the police service’s presence at the pinnacle of Kenyan football across both genders, a feat that President Ruto was more than happy with.
“As president, I am very proud of what our security forces have done to secure our nation,” President Ruto stated.
He further pledged the government’s unwavering support, promising resources to aid officers in fulfilling their duties effectively and within the confines of the law.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya also congratulated Police for their feat, saying that their success was welcome and that they had lifted the level of competition in the Premier League with their victory.
He further promised to launch a new competition to support the growth of the grassroots game.
“To provide more avenues for talent development, we will soon launch the President’s Cup, which will begin at the county level, then proceed to the regions, and culminate at the national level, where Your Excellency will preside, in line with your vision,” he said.
The tournament is expected to mirror the 2023 Talanta Hela competition, which was abandoned following the exit of former Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba from the docket.
That edition saw county-level competitions progress to a national showdown, where Homa Bay and Busia won the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively.
