Kenya Police FC will bank on their experienced heads to propel them past the visiting Mogadishu City Club in the first round of the CAF Champions League 2025/26 season. They will also count on several experienced players in their set up to help them past their opponents.
Last season, Police participated in the CAF Confederations Cup, where they managed to get past the first preliminary round by beating Ethiopia Coffee 1-0 on aggregate. In the second round, they faced Egyptian heavyweights Zamalek and despite a spirited effort, they were beaten 3-1 on aggregate, thus missing the group stages.
Head coach Etienne Ndayiragije, says that the experience they collected from their travels was invaluable and he believes it will have them in a good position as they welcome their opponents to Nairobi.
“Last year was a good experience for us. We had a tough first round against Coffee and we got through. Against Zamalek, we missed out but it was a good experience. We all learnt a lot that should help us this time round, the coach told Police TV.
This time round, they take on Mogadishu City Club, a side that he has seen in action and expects to compete.
“We expect a good side that will play with the intention to win. We have to be wary of their threat but we are prepared, he added in his interview on Police TV.
Police will bank on the likes of Harambee Stars captain Abud Omar to lead the side. The likes of Joash Onyango and Daniel Sakari will also be of value to the Police side. Sakari and Omar were a serious part of the Harambee Stars squad that managed to make the last eight of the just ended African Nations Championships CHAN.
The match will kick off at 4 PM Kenyan time.
