Faith Kipyegon teams up with Nike for 1500m world record bid

“Faith is a once-in-a-generation talent, and her audacious goal is exactly what Nike stands for,” says Elliott Hill, President & CEO Nike.
A dream that Faith Kipyegon bore many years ago, when she could only afford a dream, has finally grown some wings and might come true for the triple Olympic 1500 metres champion.
Already the world record holder in the mile, Kipyegon will attempt to become the first woman to run under the 4-minute mark in the distance, harnessing the full power of sportswear apparel giant Nike to help make it happen. An enormous feat indeed.
Kipyegon will make one attempt at the milestone on June 26 at the Stade Charléty in Paris, a time and location specifically selected to align with her training schedule and maximize her performance.
Similar to what Eliud Kipchoge acheived by breaking the two hour barrier in the Marathon assisted by Ineos in Vienna in 2019. It won't be an easy feat.
"I’m a three-time Olympic champion. I’ve achieved World Championship titles. I thought, What else? Why not dream outside the box? I told myself, ‘If you believe in yourself, and your team believes in you, you can do it," she told Nike.com.
Currently, no woman athlete is positioned to break the 4-minute barrier alone, but that reality can change with the right partnership, as Kipchoge showed.
Nike is providing its unyielding support for Kipyegon’s pursuit of the landmark feat.
She and the brand have worked together to optimize every aspect of her being to make it a successful attempt.
"Faith is a once-in-a-generation talent, and her audacious goal is exactly what Nike stands for," says Elliott Hill, President & CEO, Nike.
"Breaking4 is the kind of bold dream we will do everything in our power to make real. Alongside Faith, our innovators are breaking barriers by combining cutting-edge sport science with revolutionary footwear and apparel innovation to help her achieve a truly historic goal," he said.
Kipyegon has won three consecutive Olympic Gold Medals, achieving the feat in 2024, 2020, and 2016.
