Raila donates land for 1,000 affordable homes as Ruto launches Sh3.5 bn Housing Project in Kisumu

Odinga noted that he is willing to work closely with the current administration to help solve issues facing the country, adding that such cooperation is necessary for progress.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has donated five acres of his family land in the Kirembe area to the national government for the construction of affordable housing units, a move President William Ruto says will greatly support ongoing efforts to ease the housing crisis in Kisumu.
Speaking on Thursday at Kirembe grounds where he laid the foundation stone for the multi-billion LV Marina housing project associated with Odinga, Ruto said the land donation will enable the government to invest Sh3.5 billion in new housing units, set to benefit close to 1,000 locals.
"The 5-acre donation will go a long way in addressing the housing needs of locals in the area," Raila said, who accompanied the President during the tour.
He added that the new units will come with key amenities like schools and hospitals.
Ruto, on his part, commended Odinga for the gesture, calling it a show of unity and commitment to national development.
He said the wider housing program aims to deliver 15,000 affordable units in Kisumu and its environs.
"The construction of Lumumba affordable housing units is ongoing and targets to benefit 2,000 locals and alleviate housing ownership challenges," the President said.
Addressing hundreds of residents who turned up for the ceremony, Ruto reaffirmed his administration's commitment to expanding access to home ownership.
He also urged Kenyans to ignore voices he described as divisive.
"Ignore naysayers who are only interested in the politics of division and tribalism," he said.
Odinga noted that he is willing to work closely with the current administration to help solve issues facing the country, adding that such cooperation is necessary for progress.
