The victim, Cho Tun Aung, who previously served as Myanmar’s ambassador to Cambodia, was shot outside his residence on May 22.

Myanmar's state media reports that authorities have detained 16 individuals including a six-year-old girl in connection with the killing of a retired general in Yangon last month.

The victim, Cho Tun Aung, who previously served as Myanmar’s ambassador to Cambodia, was shot outside his residence on May 22.

The attack was later claimed by an anti-military group known as the "Golden Valley Warriors."

Since the military coup in 2021, Myanmar has descended into a complex civil conflict, with pro-democracy fighters and ethnic armed groups battling the junta across various regions.

While most of the conflict in Myanmar plays out in rural areas and smaller towns, Yangon the country’s biggest city and commercial center, continues to witness frequent grenade and gun attacks targeting junta-linked individuals.

According to The Global New Light of Myanmar, authorities have arrested 16 people believed to be members of the anti-regime group “Golden Valley Warriors.” The group includes 13 men and three women, apprehended from different locations.

Among those detained are the wife and six-year-old daughter of the alleged gunman, Myo Ko Ko. The state-run newspaper did not clarify the charges if any, against the child.

The report further alleges that Myo Ko Ko and another accomplice cycled to the retired general’s residence, shot him, and then escaped to a nearby hideout.

Although Myanmar’s junta has lost considerable ground in recent months, analysts caution that it remains a formidable force bolstered by a strong air force equipped with Russian aircraft and ongoing military support from China.
