Murkomen calls Gachagua a ‘pathological liar’ over terror-related remarks

Murkomen challenged Gachagua to present evidence to the relevant authorities or record a formal statement with the police once he returns to Kenya
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has launched a fierce attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of making false claims about national security and branding him a “pathological liar.”
Speaking during the 27th Jukwaa la Usalama forum in Narok County on Monday, August 11, 2025, Murkomen dismissed Gachagua’s recent statements made while on a tour of the United States.
The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader had alleged links between certain Kenyan businesses and the Al-Shabaab terror group.
Murkomen challenged Gachagua to present evidence to the relevant authorities or record a formal statement with the police once he returns to Kenya.
“If he truly has information to help fight Al-Shabaab, he should put it in writing and provide the evidence. Instead, he gives us soundbites for social media, aimed at inciting the public,” Murkomen said.
The CS accused Gachagua of chasing online attention rather than acting responsibly as a leader seeking higher office.
“One minute, he claims to have vital security information, the next, he says ordinary businesspeople are working with the enemy. When asked to record a statement, he runs away. That tells you it’s just lies,” Murkomen added.
His comments come after both Murkomen and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said Gachagua should be questioned over his remarks once he returns from abroad.
Gachagua, speaking in Los Angeles on Sunday, appeared to mock the calls for his arrest.
“When my day to return to Kenya comes, I will announce the date, the hour, and the flight number so anyone interested in arresting me can do so,” he said.
“Every day they talk about me in Parliament and say they will arrest me, but I keep going. I am not a leader who buys fear,” Gachagua added.
