42 vehicle body builders, 12 speed limiter firms cleared by NTSA

Kenya Coach Industries in Nairobi, Associated Vehicle Assemblers Limited in Mombasa and Kisumu Mpya in Kisumu are among the 42 approved vehicle body builders
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has published the latest list of approved motor vehicle body builders, conformity assessors, and licensed speed limiter suppliers for August 2025.
In a notice released on Friday, NTSA said the update is part of its mandate under Section 4 of the NTSA Act No. 33 of 2012 and the Traffic Act (CAP 403) to strengthen road safety in the country.
The authority stressed that all vehicle body builders must comply with Kenya Standard KS 372:2019, which requires bus bodies to be reliable, safe, and suitable for public use. Approved builders are expected to maintain high standards in design, construction, and assembly.
“Conformity Assessors are required to issue certificate of conformity and affix the VIN Plate on the body of the vehicle as proof of conformance to the Standard,” NTSA said.
According to the notice, 42 motor vehicle body builders have been approved across different counties.
They include Kenya Coach Industries in Nairobi, Associated Vehicle Assemblers Limited in Mombasa, Kisumu Mpya in Kisumu, and Sahota Body Works Limited in Nakuru.
Others retained on the list include Black Sparks Fabricators, Blessed Hand Auto Garage, and Himat Fabricators.
NTSA also confirmed two approved conformity assessors: Al-Sahel Services Limited and Kenya Association of Bus Manufacturer Services Limited, both located in Nairobi. Their role is to issue certificates of conformity and affix Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plates to show compliance with KS 372:2019.
On speed limiters, NTSA announced that 12 companies have been licensed under KS 2295:2023, which guides the licensing of suppliers.
The licensed firms are Ajira Connect, Karibia Technology Solution Limited, Kensrin Company Limited, Marts Logistics Limited, Oak and Gold Limited, Pinnacle Systems Limited, Power Governors Limited, Saferider Management Systems Limited, Track and Trace Limited, Tracktrail Solution, Trailmycar Solutions Limited, and Transport & Lifting Services Limited.
The authority reminded suppliers that they must obtain permits from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), approval from the Chief Mechanical and Transport Engineer, and licensing by NTSA before operating.
NTSA said the full lists of approved companies and details on the required standards, KS 372:2019 and KS 2295:2023, are available on the KEBS website.
