Governor Guyo: My opponents want me out, but I’ll face them in court

The governor, who spoke in Nairobi on Sunday during a fundraising function at PCEA Shalom Church, said the cases he is facing are politically driven and aimed at tarnishing his image.
Isiolo Governor Ibrahim Abdi Hassan, commonly referred to as Guyo, has claimed that his political foes are behind efforts to force him out of leadership.
The governor, who spoke in Nairobi on Sunday during a fundraising function at PCEA Shalom Church, said the cases he is facing are politically driven and aimed at tarnishing his image.
“Whatever is happening is not giving me sleepless nights. I want to tell the politicians who are behind it that if you want to be the governor that the only way for you to be the governor is through the people,” Guyo said.
“They should go and talk to Isiolo people and elected as a governor or what whatever seats they want, there is no shortcut.”
His remarks came in the wake of arrest orders issued by the Director of Public Prosecutions, who on Friday instructed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to apprehend the governor together with seven other individuals.
The group is accused of involvement in a robbery with violence incident in Machakos County.
According to the DPP, the case involves the abduction and assault of former Isiolo County Chief Officer of Health Abdirahaman Mohamed, alongside county assembly members who supported the governor’s impeachment.
Guyo, however, dismissed the directive, saying the matter is purely political and will be contested in court.
He added that he is willing to cooperate with investigators but insisted he is still under protection.
“Those charges are political. We will fight it and with time, we will be vindicated. The conservatory order was very clear. Until the case is heard and determined, I should not be arrested and harassed by anybody,” Guyo said.
He further confirmed that the case has been set for September 23, 2025.
