Speaking in Migori County on Thursday, the CS said that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had made significant progress in the matter.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has provided an update on the investigation into the killing of well-known lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, who was shot along Magadi Road in Nairobi.

Speaking to the press on Thursday in Migori County, Murkomen said detectives have already identified key individuals linked to the murder and are actively questioning them.

He further stated that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are working to trace others involved in the Tuesday evening attack. Several witnesses have come forward with crucial information, which investigators are using to piece together the events leading to Mbobu’s death.

"We have been in touch with the DCI since this thing happened, and I am happy to note that there is some progress. Some persons of interest have been identified," Murkomen said.

"Those persons of interest are being interrogated, and so many others are going to be sought. We thank the eyewitnesses who have already come out who were at the scene and many others who are giving information to the DCI," he added.

Murkomen urged the public to assist the ongoing probe by providing any additional information to nearby police stations. He also paid tribute to Mbobu, describing him as a dedicated, articulate, and knowledgeable professional who had been one of his university law teachers.

"This is a very sad thing that has happened in our country, and it is akin to what happened to Ong’ondo Were. I feel very sad because Mbobu was my teacher and my friend," he said.

The CS’s remarks follow DCI’s announcement that the murder investigation had begun immediately after the incident. According to the investigators, Mbobu was shot on Tuesday, September 9, by unknown assailants while returning home from several meetings in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

Preliminary findings indicate that Mbobu was shot five times in the head, dying instantly, with three spent cartridges recovered at the scene. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Thursday, September 11, under the supervision of Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor at Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
