Siaya man surrenders after beheading grandmother

The suspect, identified as 45-year-old George Opondo, is said to have used an axe to carry out the brutal killing of Jenipher Aduol before hiding her body inside her home.
Residents of Jera Central village in Ugenya sub-county were left horrified after a man allegedly decapitated his 85-year-old grandmother, accusing her of engaging in witchcraft.
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old George Opondo, is said to have used an axe to carry out the brutal killing of Jenipher Aduol before hiding her body inside her home.
North Ugenya Chief John Okelo Mboto confirmed that George Opondo later turned himself in at Bar-Ober Police Post, where he confessed to the killing and asked officers to recover the body.
Police officers, together with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, responded promptly to the scene.
Upon arrival, they found the house locked but managed to retrieve the key and gain access. Inside, they discovered the victim’s body lying on the floor.
The remains were moved to a private mortuary in Sega town for a postmortem.
An axe and a spade, suspected to have been used in the attack, were recovered at the scene and taken to Ukwala Police Station as evidence.
During questioning, the suspect alleged that his grandmother was using witchcraft to hinder the family's progress.
He is currently in custody at Ukwala Police Station.
