At least two people have died following a powerful avalanche on the Eiger mountain in the Swiss Alps, according to local police reports.
The incident occurred shortly after midday, sweeping away seven individuals who were skiing in the area.
This triggered a major rescue operation by authorities.
One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was initially treated on site but later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Police confirmed that all those buried by the avalanche have been rescued.
The Eiger, standing at 3,967 meters (13,000 feet), is a famous peak located in the Bern region, close to popular tourist destinations such as Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, and Wengen.
At the time of the avalanche, at least eight people were on the mountain, with one person remaining unaffected, according to police. Five others were airlifted to hospitals for medical care.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident. The north face of the Eiger is well-known among mountaineers for being one of the most difficult climbs in the world.
