The ongoing conflict in Gaza and the West Bank has led to a sharp increase in civilian casualties and widespread displacement.

The United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR) reports that between March 18 and April 22, Israeli military strikes have resulted in the deaths of numerous Palestinians, including children and women.

For instance, on April 18, two residential buildings in Tal Az-Za’atar, North Gaza, were struck, killing 13 Palestinians, including 8 children and a journalist, Tamer Maqdad.

On April 24, an Israeli Air Force strike hit a house in Ash Shaikh Redwan, Gaza City, killing two boys and a girl along with their parents.

In the West Bank, settler violence and operations by Israeli security forces continue to cause death, injury, and displacement among Palestinians.

On April 23, Israeli settlers reportedly attacked Palestinians and their property in Khirbet al-Tell area of Sinjil village, Ramallah, resulting in the injury of eight young Palestinian men and the destruction of three agricultural structures.

Israeli security forces reportedly prevented emergency crews from reaching the wounded and extinguishing the fire.

Similarly, on April 21, around 200 settlers burned three houses in the same community and stole sheep belonging to Palestinians, prompting confrontations with residents attempting to defend their properties.

The OHCHR has condemned these acts of violence and called on Israel to ensure the protection of Palestinian civilians and hold perpetrators accountable.

The office has also urged third states to act according to their obligations under international law to ensure that such conduct ceases immediately and to search for and bring to justice perpetrators of crimes under international law.

The international community continues to call for an end to the violence and a return to peace negotiations to address the underlying issues of the conflict.
