The announcement marks a new chapter for the retailer as it celebrates its 35th anniversary, with the leadership change described as part of a succession plan anchored on stability, foresight, and continuity.

Naivas Supermarkets has announced the appointment of Andreas von Paleske as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective November 1, 2025.

He succeeds David Kimani, the company’s founder, who has led Naivas from a small family business into Kenya’s leading retail chain.

The announcement marks a new chapter for the retailer as it celebrates its 35th anniversary, with the leadership change described as part of a succession plan anchored on stability, foresight, and continuity.

In a statement, the company expressed deep gratitude to Kimani for his visionary leadership, which saw Naivas grow from a family-run operation into a national retail icon with over 100 stores across the country.

“Under David’s entrepreneurial spirit and distinguished leadership, Naivas grew from a family business into a national icon. His vision steered us to a milestone of over 100 stores nationwide, touching the lives of millions of Kenyans,” the statement read.

Naivas noted that Kimani’s decision to hand over leadership during the retailer’s 35th year reflected his confidence in the team and the enduring systems he helped build.

Kimani will continue to guide the business alongside the Mukuha family.

The retailer described von Paleske as a proven leader and a key architect of Naivas’ success over the past eight years, during which he served as Chief of Strategy.

He was personally recruited by Kimani to help shape the company’s long-term direction.

Von Paleske brings with him over 25 years of experience in the retail and consumer sectors, spanning investment, operations, and strategy.

Naivas credited his deep industry knowledge and strategic insight for contributing to the retailer’s growth and market leadership.

“We are not welcoming a newcomer, but elevating a proven leader who has been integral to our recent success. Andreas is not just a successor; he is a continuation of a winning strategy,” Naivas said.

The company emphasized that the transition represents continuity, not change, describing von Paleske as a leader who understands Naivas’ culture, values, and the customers it serves.

“This transition is designed for seamless continuity. Andreas knows our business inside and out, and he is deeply committed to building upon the strong foundation laid by David,” the statement added.

Naivas’ board and leadership team said they remain focused on delivering exceptional value to customers, strengthening partnerships, and supporting communities across Kenya.

“The future of retail in Kenya is bright, and we are excited to build it with you,” the company said.
