KNEC begins registration for KJSEA in readiness for Senior School

Preparations for the first-ever end of junior school assessment under the Competency -Based Curriculum started on Tuesday with registration of learners who will undertake assessment at the end of the year.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) on Monday announced the registration exercise will close on March 28th, 2025, and the he registration will be conducted on the KNEC portal.

"As per presidential working party, we will use 20 per cent of KPSEA, 20 per cent of grade 7 and 8 School Based Assessment and 60 per cent summative KJSEA,” KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njegere said.

However, the council said eligible learners presented for KJSEA must exist in the Grade 9 database, have a KPSEA performance report and have SBA scores for grade 7 and 8 in all the learning areas.

Meanwhile KNEC has will conduct training of examiners for Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) this month (March) and April 2025.

According to the examinations body, the training fee is Ksh 10, 500 and will only be paid by the shortlisted applicants who will be notified on how to make payments through a text message and via the application portal.

KNEC says the training will be conducted first online and later on physical in a residential venue.

“Shortlisted trainees will be directed on how to access the online training materials. The venue for the residential training will be communicated to the qualified trainees later where the exercise will be strictly residential,” reads a statement by KNEC.

Qualified examiners will thereafter be engaged by KNEC to mark KJSEA assessments using the criteria for recruitment of examiners based on the personnel needs for each paper, it adds.
