Muchai Murder: Suspect denies texting with co-accused

The fifth suspect in the murder case of the late Kabete Member of Parliament (MP) George Muchai has denied claims of owning a house in Kangemi, Nairobi.
Jane Wanjiru Kimani, while testifying before Magistrate Lucas Onyina at the Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, challenged Senior Sergeant Francis Ole Singila’s testimony, accusing him of falsely stating that he had taken her to a house in Kangemi.
Wanjiru stated that after her arrest on February 13, 2015, at Murera Farm in Ruiru, where she resided with her grandmother, mother, and aunt, she was taken to the Nairobi Area police headquarters, not Kangemi.
However, Sergeant Singila testified that after Wanjiru's arrest, she was taken to her residence in Kangemi, where officers discovered two rounds of ammunition concealed beneath a concrete stone at the doorstep.
Wanjiru also denied being at Gaza Club in Kangemi on February 7, 2015, at 7:00 pm alongside the third accused, Mustafa Kimani.
She claimed that she had never met Mustafa before their arraignment in court, stating that the first time she saw him was during the court proceedings.
However, she added that she could barely see him clearly that day, as she had been severely beaten and was struggling with injuries.
Pressed on whether she was aware of a phone presented as evidence, which was reportedly handed over to the seventh accused, Simon Wambugu, by her and Mustafa on the same date while in Kangemi, Wanjiru stated that the arresting officer questioned her about stolen phones, but she did not inquire further into why he had raised the issue.
The phone presented as an exhibit in court, which was allegedly handled by Wanjiru, Mustafa, and Wambugu, had been reported stolen on the night of February 6, 2015, into the early hours of February 7, 2015.
She firmly denied possessing any phone, emphasizing that she neither owned a phone nor had a SIM card at the time.
Wanjiru maintained that she had no means of contacting Mustafa or Wambugu and reiterated that she did not know them.
The defense hearing is set to continue on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 10:00 am.
