Sunview Medipro International has officially kicked off Phase 1 of a major rollout of cutting-edge medical equipment to public health facilities at the national, county, and sub-county levels throughout Kenya.

This ambitious initiative is part of the National Equipment Service Program (NESP), a collaboration between the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Council of Governors (CoG).

It involves the deployment of 98 Diagnostic Imaging CT Scan machines (two per county), two Diagnostic Imaging Mammogram machines, along with 400 operating theatres and 400 laboratories nationwide.

Operating under a Fee-for-Service (FFS) model, the program aims to upgrade healthcare infrastructure while enhancing the capacity for early diagnosis and treatment of common health conditions in public hospitals.

The rollout marks a significant step in Kenya’s push for decentralized access to specialized medical care and the broader objective of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

“Our integrated model guarantees that healthcare providers receive full support at every stage,” said Sirat Amin, CEO of Sunview Medipro, during the launch event at the company’s Nairobi headquarters.

He highlighted that the program goes beyond just delivering equipment it also covers installation, setup, thorough training, maintenance, supply of spare parts and consumables, as well as ongoing advisory services to ensure consistent, high-quality healthcare.

Installations are already in progress at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, King Fahd Lamu County Referral Hospital, Kerugoya County Referral Hospital, and Wajir County Referral Hospital.

James Kamau, Principal Supply Chain Officer at the Council of Governors, noted that the initial phase will focus on Level 5 and key referral hospitals.

“With the Fee-for-Service model, public health facilities can offer advanced medical services without bearing heavy upfront capital expenses,” Kamau explained.

“This approach will save counties millions in maintenance costs, allowing funds to be redirected toward hiring additional healthcare workers and purchasing vital medical supplies.”

The upgraded facilities are also expected to facilitate reverse referrals, enabling patients who would normally travel to national referral or private hospitals to receive similar care closer to home.

This shift supports accessible, high-quality, one-stop public healthcare at the county level, advancing the objectives of the Universal Health Coverage agenda.

To maximize public access to these enhanced services, county governments are urged to expedite registration with the Social Health Authority (SHA), ensuring that no expectant mother or patient is turned away due to financial constraints.

“Providing our health facilities with the right equipment is fundamental to delivering effective care. This is how we create a responsive and resilient health system,” Health Principal Secretary Dr. Oluga commended the initiative.

Sunview Medipro has partnered with leading global manufacturers such as GE, Fuji, and United Imaging to supply top-tier medical equipment, with more deliveries planned over the next 8 to 10 weeks.

The new equipment will boost diagnostics and treatment in key specialties such as Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology, Pulmonology, Urology, and Gastroenterology.

Sunview Medipro is collaborating with regional healthcare experts including cardiologists, pediatricians, orthopedic surgeons, and interventional radiologists to deliver training and ensure optimal clinical outcomes at the county level.
