Early Saturday morning, seven people died following a serious road crash on the Kitengela–Isinya Road involving a matatu and a lorry.
The crash took place at Korompoi and left several others injured, prompting emergency responders to rush to the scene amid chaos and road blockage.
The matatu was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry, severely damaging the vehicle’s front section, according to images seen by Radio Generation.
First responders worked quickly to provide aid, but police officers had not yet arrived to begin their investigation when reports were filed. The cause of the crash remains unclear.
Following the accident, frustrated residents blocked the Kitengela-Isinya Road, demanding immediate government action to address ongoing road safety concerns.
Motorists have been advised to seek alternative routes as rescue operations continue.
This incident occurred just hours after a devastating bus crash at the Coptic Roundabout on the Kisumu-Kakamega Road left 25 people dead.
The bus, carrying mourners from Nyahera to Nyakach, overturned at the dangerous blackspot around 5:30 p.m.
Nyanza Regional Traffic Commander Peter Maina stated that the bus was en route from Kakamega to Kisumu when the driver apparently lost control, causing the vehicle to fall into a ditch.
President William Ruto called on traffic enforcement agencies to act quickly, saying, “We ask traffic enforcers to act swiftly to bring to book those responsible for any acts of negligence leading to the accident and address all traffic violations to ensure road safety across the country.”
Health Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Olunga confirmed that 21 victims died instantly at the scene, with four more passing after reaching Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).
Currently, 28 patients, including a child, are under treatment.
“We have mobilized all health workers on duty and alerted additional personnel to ensure the injured get the best possible care,” Olunga added.
Earlier this week, a tragic collision involving a bus and a train near Morendat Farm in Naivasha claimed the lives of eight people, many of whom were Kenya Pipeline Company employees.
Preliminary reports suggest the bus driver crossed the railway line without looking, leading to the deadly collision. The train dragged the bus for over 200 meters, causing massive destruction.
