Kenya Cup Final: Oilers looking to end Kabras' three-year unbeaten run

Kabras are in their tenth straight final and will be pushing for their fourth title in a row
Menengai Oilers will attempt to do the near impossible when they take on Kabras Sugar at the Kakamega Forest Grounds in the 2025 Kenya Cup Final on Saturday.
Kick-off will be at 3 pm local time and will pit the relatively new-to-the-final Oilers versus the dominance of the Sugarmen.
Kabras are unbeaten in the last three Kenya Cup seasons, 2024, 2023, and 2022.
The Sugarmen are in their tenth straight final and will be pushing for their fourth title in a row.
For Menengai Oilers head coach Gibson Weru, himself a former player of repute, the pressure is on. The two last met in the 2022 final, with Kabras prevailing 34-28 in Kakamega.
Weru acknowledges the enormous task facing them on Saturday.
"We are aware that Kabras have not lost in three years, and that makes this one an interesting task that can be achieved for us as a team, and we are prepared well for this task. We acknowledge that Kabras are good in some aspects of play and have prepared to face them," Weru told Radio Generation Sport.
"The set pieces have to be stable because that is where everything starts, and definitely our defense has to be resolute, effective and disciplined to be able to deal with them."
In the regular season, Kabras was forced to stage a second half comeback to beat out a 14-man Oilers side 20-14 on March 1 this year in Nakuru.
If that match is anything to go by, we should expect a mouthwatering clash.
A capacity crowd is expected in Kakamega for the final.
The two sides will also meet in the final of the Enterprise Cup on 24 April 2025.
