Brace for weekend downpours, Weatherman tells Kenyans

Other areas expected to receive significant rainfall include the South-eastern lowlands, Coast, Northwestern, and Northeastern Kenya.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a weekend weather advisory warning of isolated heavy rainfall in several parts of the country.
According to the forecast for April 12 to Sunday, April 13, residents in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, should prepare for heavy downpours.
Other areas expected to receive significant rainfall include the South-eastern lowlands, Coast, Northwestern, and Northeastern Kenya.
The Weatherman said areas in the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of the Rift Valley, and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley—such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, and Trans Nzoia are among those expected to receive heavy rains.
Also affected will be Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties.
The update follows days of intense rains in parts of the country, which have led to damage to vital infrastructure, particularly roads.
A spot-check by the Star revealed widespread flooding that disrupted traffic and hindered the movement of people.
April is the peak of the country’s long rains season, and most regions are projected to receive near-to-above-average rainfall. The Met Department indicated that storms may occur in some areas due to the intensity of the rains.
They added that the onset of the rains is marked by continuous rainfall of at least 20mm over three days, without a dry spell of seven days in the following three weeks.
"For the Northern part of the country, the accumulated rainfall should be at least 10mm over three consecutive days," the department stated.
The Coast region is expected to experience the peak of the rains in May.
