Weatherman warns of heavy rainfall over Easter period

The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised Kenyans to prepare for a rainy Easter holiday, with widespread rainfall expected across various parts of the country, along with localized heavy showers in some regions.

The latest weather forecast indicates that the affected areas will include Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, the Central Highlands (including Nairobi), the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of the South-Eastern Lowlands, as well as several coastal, North-Eastern, and North-Western regions of Kenya.

This weather pattern is anticipated to persist from Friday, April 18, to Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

"Rainfall is likely to continue over several parts of the country. Isolated heavy rainfall events are expected over some parts of the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Lake Victoria Basin, the Coast, Southeastern Lowlands, and North-eastern Kenya," the weatherman predicted

Residents in the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley region should prepare for morning rainfall, followed by afternoon and evening showers, which may include thunderstorms.

These conditions are expected to worsen across multiple areas from Friday to Tuesday.

Affected counties include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.

"Morning rains are expected over a few places, giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over several places. Night showers are expected over a few places, occasionally spreading to several places," said the Weatherman.

Counties in the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka, are expected to experience mostly sunny intervals, with light rains possible in some areas during the morning hours.

Nights will be partly cloudy.

According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, mornings will likely start off cloudy, with light rains in a few places, followed by sunny periods.

Afternoon and evening showers, including thunderstorms, are expected in some areas and may spread across several locations.

In the south-eastern lowlands, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River County, afternoon and evening showers are expected from Friday to Tuesday.

Mornings will be cloudy with light rains in a few areas, followed by sunny intervals.

The forecast also predicts afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms in some areas.

The weather advisory indicates that daytime temperatures are expected to reach highs of 30°C over the next five days, especially in coastal, northeastern, and western regions.
