In Summary

During his visit, Mudavadi who is also the Foreign Affairs CS, will meet with Morocco’s Head of Government and Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is scheduled to depart on Sunday for a three-day official trip to Rabat, Morocco.

The visit comes after a previous invitation from Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita was postponed and seeks to deepen the diplomatic and economic ties between Kenya and Morocco.

A statement from Mudavadi’s office indicates that he will engage in high-level discussions aimed at boosting cooperation and tackling the existing trade imbalance that currently favors Morocco.

Kenya’s exports to Morocco, which include tea, coffee, textiles, fruits, and vegetables, amount to about Sh480 million. In contrast, imports from Morocco, such as fertilizers, oils, and aircraft parts, total approximately Sh12.1 billion.

During his visit, Mudavadi who is also the Foreign Affairs CS, will meet with Morocco’s Head of Government and Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch to explore key areas for collaboration, according to Jacob Ng’etich, Director of Press Service.

A significant highlight of the trip will be the official opening of the Kenyan Embassy in Rabat, a move that reflects the strong diplomatic relations between the two countries dating back to 1965.

The embassy was inaugurated in December 2023 following discussions between President William Ruto and Prime Minister Akhannouch during the Dakar II Feed Africa Summit in Senegal earlier that year.

This new embassy will boost Kenya’s diplomatic footprint in North Africa, complementing existing missions in Egypt and Algeria.

Mudavadi is also set to hold bilateral talks with Moroccan ministers responsible for agriculture and trade, with several Memoranda of Understanding expected to be signed.

These agreements will cover areas such as housing and institutional collaboration between Kenya’s Foreign Service Academy and Morocco’s Diplomatic Academy.
