Following complaints by Nairobi residents over the lack of adequate garbage disposal bins within Nairobi, the local county administration has now installed new Glasdon Jubilee 110-litre litter bins across the city.

City Hall officials carried out the overnight installation, introducing a fresh approach to waste management.

These heat- and tamper-resistant Durapol bins were strategically placed throughout the central business district.

By daybreak, passersby were already admiring the sleek, innovative bins a first for any Kenyan city.

On Friday night, Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson inspected the newly installed bins, describing the initiative as a major advancement in the city’s public sanitation efforts.

Crafted from Durapol a durable, heat- and impact-resistant polymer, these bins are built to endure Nairobi’s busy urban conditions, including heavy foot traffic and harsh weather.

Each bin comes with a domed lid to prevent rainwater buildup and a three-point locking system to stop tampering or unauthorized access.

"These bins are more than just waste containers. They represent the Nairobi we’re creating, a city that values cleanliness, order, and progress," Sakaja said.

The bins also come with an anti-flyposting coating to prevent illegal advertising, a persistent problem in the city.

Inside, they feature corrosion-resistant plastic liners, and some models include lightweight molded polyethylene for extra durability.

Governor Sakaja stressed the vital role of public cooperation in keeping the city clean.

"We’re investing in modern infrastructure, but true progress depends on wananchi taking responsibility and disposing of their waste correctly," said Sakaja.

The first phase of the rollout targets busy areas, with plans to install more bins in residential zones, public parks, and transport hubs in the near future.

This initiative precedes the launch of Green Nairobi Company Ltd, a new autonomous agency set to manage waste collection and environmental upkeep throughout the city.
