IG Kanja gazettes new police stations to boost security

The move is geared toward strengthening grassroots security infrastructure in the country.
Inspector-General of Police, Douglas Kanja has officially gazetted two new police stations in Turkana and Nairobi counties to boost grassroots security infrastructure in the country.
Through a gazette notice, published on June 5, 2025, Oropoi in Turkana West Sub-county and Utalii in Ruaraka Sub-county have been designated as fully operational police stations.
"IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 40 (1) of the National Police Service Act, the Inspector-General designates
establishments particulars of which are set out in the Schedule hereto to be Police Stations or Posts for the purposes of this Act," reads the gazette notice.
In addition, a new police post has been established at Loreng, also in Turkana West.
The gazettement is in line with Section 40(1) of the National Police Service Act, which empowers the Inspector-General to designate such facilities for the purpose of law enforcement and community policing.
The move is aimed at improving security coverage in remote and high-risk areas that have long experienced law enforcement challenges due to sparse infrastructure.
The new police stations and post are expected to bring police services closer to the residents and improve response time to crime and emergencies.
