President Ruto urged to partner with Mwangaza to win Meru support

Imanyara, a close ally and former advisor to ex-Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, called on President Ruto to reassess his political standing in Meru County following DEP's exit.
Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP), popularly known as the Bus Party, is facing internal divisions after its Secretary General, Mugambi Imanyara, publicly disassociated himself from the party’s recent move to sever ties with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition.
Imanyara, a close ally and former advisor to ex-Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, called on President Ruto to reassess his political standing in Meru County following DEP's exit.
The party is led by former Governor Kiraitu Murungi and former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, both of whom have now withdrawn support for Ruto.
Imanyara, who describes himself as a staunch supporter of Mwangaza, urged the president to reach out to her in a bid to rebuild his influence in the vote-rich region.
“It’s been three months since Kawira retreated to private life, focusing on farming and personal pursuits. The leaders who once stood beside you after the impeachment have since drifted away. You’re now politically exposed in Meru,” said Imanyara, who is also a lawyer.
According to him, President Ruto has lost ground with key political players in the region, leaving a vacuum that needs urgent attention.
However, Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi struck a different tone, insisting he remains firmly behind President Ruto.
He praised the government’s ongoing development projects in the region as the main reason for his unwavering support.
“I can’t turn my back on the president. Look at what he has delivered roads like Gatithini-Mikinduri and the multi-million-shilling markets in Mulika and Mikinduri. I am 100 percent behind him,” said Aburi, who also leads the National Ordinary People Empowerment Union (Nopeu) party.
The contrasting views reflect growing political uncertainty in Meru as President Ruto navigates shifting alliances and seeks to consolidate support ahead of future contests.
