Condemning the loss of lives and the destruction of livelihoods, the president reiterated that Kenya is a nation anchored on the rule of law, and acts of lawlessness would not be tolerated.

President William Ruto has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those behind the widespread destruction of property during the Wednesday, June 25, protests.

Addressing the nation on Friday, June 27, during a forum for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the president directed security agencies to fast-track investigations and hold accountable those responsible for the violence and looting witnessed across the country.

“I expect the Inspector General of Police and all relevant agencies to carry out immediate, thorough, and conclusive investigations. Those behind the violence must face the full force of the law without delay,” Ruto said.

Condemning the loss of lives and the destruction of livelihoods, the president reiterated that Kenya is a nation anchored on the rule of law, and acts of lawlessness would not be tolerated.

“Kenya is governed by the rule of law. We will not allow lawless elements to derail the peace and stability of our country,” he affirmed.

His remarks come a day after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen disclosed that several police stations were targeted during the protests, which marked one year since the deadly June 2024 anti-government demonstrations that claimed at least 60 lives.

In a press briefing held on Thursday, June 26, in Nairobi, Murkomen revealed that five firearms were stolen from the Dagoretti Police Post in Kiambu County. He further noted that four other guns were destroyed in an arson attack at Gachui Police Post.

“We have evidence that the criminals specifically targeted armouries and police uniforms. This was not an isolated incident it was a coordinated attempt to destabilize law enforcement,” Murkomen stated.

The CS further reported that five police stations, including those in Ol Kalou, Molo, and Dagorett,i were set ablaze. In total, nine police facilities were attacked. Additionally, 88 police vehicles were destroyed, alongside 27 national and county government vehicles, and 65 civilian vehicles — among them a school bus which were parked at various police stations.

Murkomen claimed the chaos was not spontaneous but part of a deliberate, politically motivated plan.

“This was a premeditated campaign of political violence. It was well-funded, orchestrated, and instigated by individuals seeking to exploit national tragedies for their own ends,” he alleged.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities seek to unmask the individuals and entities behind what is now being described as one of the most destructive waves of unrest in recent Kenyan history.
