Buzeki cited the dramatic events at the burial of activist Albert Ojwang as symbolic of a nation in turmoil and a society pushing back against systemic injustices.

Prominent businessman and former Uasin Gishu gubernatorial hopeful, Zedekiah Bundotich Kiprop widely known as Buzeki has strongly criticized the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), accusing the ruling party of undoing hard-won democratic progress within a short span.

In a statement issued on Saturday, July 5, 2025, Buzeki cited the dramatic events at the burial of activist Albert Ojwang as symbolic of a nation in turmoil and a society pushing back against systemic injustices.

“What unfolded at Albert Ojwang’s funeral wasn’t just chaos it was a protest by a people who feel robbed of justice and freedom. Citizens are reclaiming control; they now decide who is welcome to speak and who is not. It’s a loud cry from a deeply wounded nation,” his statement read.

Buzeki claimed that the UDA regime had reversed three decades of reforms achieved since Kenya embraced multiparty democracy in the early 1990s.

“In under three years, UDA has dismantled the constitutional and democratic gains that took us over 30 years to build,” he said.

His comments follow an incident at the funeral in Kakoth village, Kabondo-Kasipul, where mourners disrupted Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga’s address, instead demanding to hear from Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

Chants of “Babu! Babu!” echoed from the youth as they pressured Wanga to step down from the podium, signaling a growing frustration with the political elite.

During his speech, Babu Owino took a jab at the official police narrative around Ojwang’s death in custody, sarcastically referring to reports that the activist died after hitting his head on a cell wall.

“If they claimed Ojwang died after hitting his head, then these police station must have also set itself ablaze,” said Owino, referencing the mysterious fire that later gutted Mawengo Police Station.

The burial ceremony drew a large crowd, including political figures who joined the call for justice for Ojwang’s grieving family. The late activist, who died while in police custody, was the only child in his family, leaving behind his young widow, a son, and devastated parents.
