In Summary

In addition to the conspiracy charge, MP Koimburi is also facing a separate charge of publishing false information under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act.

A Kiambu court has issued a warrant of arrest against Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi after he failed to appear in court for plea-taking in a case where he is charged with conspiracy to defeat justice.

The arrest warrant was also issued against two other accused individuals, one identified as Peter (the sixth accused) and another known as Njuguna alias Njugush (the seventh accused), who also failed to present themselves before the court.

Meanwhile, five other accused persons appeared in court and pleaded not guilty. Among them were Juja Constituency Development Fund Chairperson Peter Kiratu Muhia and Kanyenya-ini Ward MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu.

They are all accused of taking part in a scheme to stage-manage the alleged abduction of MP Koimburi to prevent his arrest and arraignment in a land fraud case filed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The court maintained the previous cash bail terms of Sh300,000 for those who were present. It also directed that each accused must now provide three contact persons to be examined in court.

The defence lawyers asked the court to allow the release of motor vehicles and mobile phones that had been confiscated during the arrests, arguing that the items were personal property.

However, the prosecution opposed the application. State prosecutor Owiti asked the court to officially issue arrest warrants for those who were absent, including the Juja MP.

“We are not opposed to bond for those who are present,” said Owiti. “But we pray that warrants of arrest are issued against the 1st accused, George Koimburi, the 6th accused Peter, and the 7th accused Njuguna alias Njugush.”

In addition to the conspiracy charge, MP Koimburi is also facing a separate charge of publishing false information under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act.

According to court documents, the charge relates to a video statement made by Koimburi on June 7, 2025, through a YouTube channel while at Karen Hospital. In the video, he claimed to have been abducted and tortured by unknown individuals.

The prosecution argues that Koimburi knew the information he gave was false and intended to create public panic.

Peter Kiratu Muhia, one of the co-accused, also faces an extra charge of giving false information to a police officer.

He allegedly reported that Koimburi had been kidnapped by masked men shortly after attending a church service at Full Gospel Church in Mugutha.

The case will be mentioned again on August 5, 2025, when the court is expected to give further directions.
