DCI wants 15 more days to hold Juja CDF chair over Koimburi case

The three are reportedly close associates of the MP and are accused of abducting him from Full Gospel Ebenezer Church in Mugutha.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has filed a court application seeking to hold Juja Constituency Development Fund Chairman Peter Kiratu Mbaru and two others for 15 more days over the alleged kidnapping of Juja MP George Koimburi.
The two others named are David Macharia Gatana and Cirus Kieru Muhia.
The three are reportedly close associates of the MP and are accused of abducting him from Full Gospel Ebenezer Church in Mugutha. Investigators say the motive for the alleged abduction is still unclear.
In court documents, the DCI argues that releasing the suspects could interfere with ongoing investigations, especially since the MP is yet to record a formal statement.
The agency says the situation has already caused panic and sharp political divisions both nationally and within the constituency, warning it could pose a threat to peace and stability.
"The allegations have since created panic, fear, and sharp political divisions across the country and in the concerned constituency, which is cosmopolitan in nature. This presents a threat to national peace and stability," reads the DCI’s application.
The court also heard that Koimburi remains critically ill, according to his close friends and family. Doctors have not yet disclosed the nature of his condition.
The DCI told the court the matter carries serious national security implications, given that Koimburi is not only a sitting legislator but also a member of the Democracy for the Citizens Party, which is in opposition to the current government.
The case has triggered strong public reactions, which the DCI says could fuel unrest.
The agency reminded the court that kidnapping is a serious criminal offense under the Penal Code.
Preliminary investigations show that Koimburi, who allegedly evaded arrest on May 23, later returned to his home in Mugutha.
According to the first respondent, he visited the MP and was told that Koimburi intended to pursue legal action to recover his impounded vehicle from the police.
