Court grants bail to MCA, Koimburi allies over alleged fake abduction

The suspects are Grace Nduta, Juja NG-CDF Chairperson Peter Kiratu Mbaru, David Macharia Gatana, and Cyrus Kieru Muhia.
A Nairobi court has granted Kanyenyaini MCA Grace Nduta and three close associates of Juja MP George Koimburi Sh300,000 cash bail each following their arrest in connection with the MP’s alleged abduction.
Milimani Magistrate Caroline Mugo issued the ruling on Friday after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) requested to detain the suspects for 15 more days to allow investigations.
The suspects are Grace Nduta, Juja NG-CDF Chairperson Peter Kiratu Mbaru, David Macharia Gatana, and Cyrus Kieru Muhia.
They are accused of taking part in what police now believe was a stage-managed abduction of the MP.
According to the DCI, Koimburi was allegedly abducted on May 25, 2025, from Full Gospel Ebenezer Church in Mugutha.
He was later found injured and admitted to Karen Hospital, having first received treatment at Plainsview Hospital in Ruiru. His condition remains unclear.
In court documents, investigating officer Nicholas Njoroge said the MP has not recorded a statement, and medical reports about his condition are still pending.
"The allegations have since created panic, fear, and sharp political opinions across the country and within Juja constituency, which is cosmopolitan in nature. This poses a threat to national peace and stability," the DCI stated.
Police say three of the suspects were arrested on May 28 and booked at Capitol Hill, Industrial Area, and Muthaiga police stations.
They face several charges, including kidnapping in order to murder, creating disturbance likely to cause a breach of peace, and giving false information to a public officer.
It is alleged that Mbaru was the first to report the MP’s disappearance, claiming that two masked men abducted him in a Subaru Forester outside the church after the service ended at 2 pm.
The DCI confirmed the incident through CCTV footage and witness statements.
The case triggered a public outcry and wide debate, especially on social media, with MPs and the MP’s supporters expressing concern.
The DCI disclosed that two days before the incident, Koimburi had escaped arrest during a bursary event at Gachororo Primary School in Juja.
He reportedly fled on a motorcycle after spotting DCI officers and later switched off his phones.
His driver and vehicle, a black Toyota Prado (registration KDQ 854J) were taken to DCI headquarters.
The driver was released without charges while the vehicle remains in custody.
The DCI revealed that the MP was facing imminent arrest over a land fraud case involving a parcel in Ruiru.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions had recommended his prosecution for multiple offences including obtaining registration by false pretences, conspiracy to defraud, forgery, and uttering false documents.
Due to the nature of the allegations, the DCI formed a multi-agency team to handle the case.
On May 26, a video emerged online showing the MP badly injured and abandoned in a coffee plantation.
Investigators say they have not interviewed him as doctors at Karen Hospital say he is unfit to speak and have declined to release medical details, citing patient confidentiality.
The DCI claims that after escaping arrest, Koimburi returned safely to his Mugutha home before reports of his abduction surfaced.
