Nanyuki police nab suspect, seize 54 litres of illicit alcohol

The Saturday evening raid was conducted by officers from Nanyuki Police Station, who said the recovered substance is suspected to be chang’aa.
Police in Nanyuki have arrested a suspect and recovered 54 litres of illicit alcohol during an intelligence-led operation in Likii Estate, Laikipia East Sub-County.
The Saturday evening raid was conducted by officers from Nanyuki Police Station, who said the recovered substance is suspected to be chang’aa.
The suspect is being held at the station as officers continue with processing.
"The recovered exhibits have been secured as evidence, and operations against illicit and dangerous drugs are ongoing," said a police report.
The National Police Service thanked members of the public for their cooperation and urged continued collaboration in the fight against illicit brews and substance abuse.
The arrest came hours after a Saturday morning raid by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) in Soweto village, Kahawa West, Nairobi, saw more than 10,000 litres of toxic Kangara destroyed.
The pre-dawn operation conducted jointly with the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) and a police unit from the Nairobi Regional Security team, was part of the Interior Ministry's 100-day rapid results initiative to eradicate illicit brews nationwide.
Acting on intelligence, the multi-agency team stormed the den at 5:00 a.m., forcing brewers to flee into the darkness.
Officers uncovered an extensive brewing network, seizing 30 jerricans of Chang’aa and dismantling large boiling tanks and drums used for distillation to ensure the facility could not resume operations.
“This crackdown is a clear signal to the peddlers of death that their days are numbered,” said NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa
