Kindiki said the North Eastern leadership caucus, led by Eldas MP Adan Keynan (chairman) and Dadaab MP Farah Maalim (Patron), had shown great leadership for relentlessly pushing for the region’s development

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has praised North Eastern leaders for choosing to work closely with the Kenya Kwanza Administration to develop the area.

The Deputy President promised accelerated development in the region in collaboration with the leaders, highlighting projects worth billions of shillings ongoing in different parts of the area.

“We appreciate the decision by the leaders to support our President and the government. We do not take it for granted.

They are good leaders who love their country. We will work together to develop the region,” DP said.

Speaking on Sunday when he graced Lagdera Constituency Economic Empowerment held in Modogashe, Garissa County, Prof. Kindiki said the North Eastern leadership caucus, led by Eldas MP Adan Keynan (chairman) and Dadaab MP Farah Maalim (Patron), had shown great leadership for relentlessly pushing for the region’s development.

Earlier, he presided over the Tarbaj Constituency Economic Empowerment at Tarbaj TTC grounds, Wajir County.

“They are doing a lot to push for development in this region. We will join hands to continue with the socio-economic transformation of the area,” DP said.

The second-in-command said President Ruto’s administration will continue to extend development to every part of the country including those that have lagged behind for many years.

“We commend President Ruto for uniting the country and ensuring areas that had been marginalized for many years are developed,” he indicated.

Key projects that will transform the region include the LAPSSET corridor project that will connect Lamu- Ijara-Masalani- Garissa- Isiolo, a total of 315 kilometers that will cost Sh27 billion.

This is on top of the massive 750km Mandera- Rhamu- Gare-Elwak-Kobo—Kotulo- Tarbaj- Wajir- Samatar- Habaswein- Modogashe-Kula Mawe- Isiolo Road which is a Sh100 billion project expected to be completed in 2027.

In total, 1065km of roads are being undertaken in Northern Kenya by the Ruto administration.

In the nationwide last mile electricity connectivity programme, projects worth 1.7 billion shillings are ongoing in all the constituencies of Garissa County, to connect 7200 new households. In Lagdera Constituency, 380 million shillings has been allocated to connect 2100 additional households to power.

“This region is part of Kenya. Every project happening elsewhere in Kenya is being done here as well. We are building roads, modern markets, expanding electricity and other key areas,” DP assured.

The ongoing construction of 4 Hybrid Power Generation Plants in Merti in Isiolo County, Habaswein and Eldas in Wajir County and Elwak in Mandera County will significantly light up Northern Kenya and resolve longstanding challenges of inadequate and unreliable electricity supply.

Construction of 8 markets, 6 Affordable Housing Projects and hostels for Garissa University, Garissa National Polytechnic and all Technical Training Institutes (TTIs) in the County are among strategic infrastructural development projects worth billions of shillings that the Government is implementing to spur economic transformation of Garissa County.

The removal of the previous procedures for the acquisition of birth certificates, national identity cards and travel passports as well as establishment of the Garissa Immigration Regional office has enhanced service delivery.

“The people of North Eastern are Kenyans like all of us. We respect the people from this region because of their business acumen and investment across the country. We cannot accept any attempt to brand them otherwise by others,” said National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, who accompanied the DP and joined by other leaders.
