Ole Naado resigns as member of Waqf Commissioners recruitment panel

Al-Hajji Hassan Kirua ole Naado cited frustrations over prolonged delays and lack of progress in the appointment process.
A key member of the panel tasked with recruiting commissioners for the Waqf Commission formally resigned on Tuesday.
Al-Hajji Hassan Kirua ole Naado cited frustrations over prolonged delays and lack of progress in the appointment process.
He was one of five individuals appointed in March to the Selection Panel, gazetted by Attorney-General Dorcas Oduor, to oversee the recruitment of members of the Waqf Commission.
The Commission is a key institution mandated to manage Islamic endowments, safeguard the administration of charitable assets, and resolve long-standing legal challenges that have hampered its effectiveness.
In a resignation letter dated September 9, 2025, and addressed to Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, Ole Naado tendered his resignation from the recruitment panel, which was constituted through Gazette Notice No. 9143 of July 14, 2023.
The Selection Panel was established pursuant to Section 7 of the Waqf Act, with the mandate of recommending suitably qualified candidates for appointment as Commissioners of the Waqf Commission.
“Since our gazettement, we have convened several meetings alongside the technical and support teams representing the appointing authority. However, there has been limited progress and the delay in appointing the Waqf Commissioners is becoming increasingly concerning for both the institutions we represent and the wider community,” Ole Naado said in a letter seen by Radio Generation.
Other members of the panel include Jawahir Keinan Hassan, Sheikh Ibrahim Lethome Asmani, Sheikh Abdala Ibrahim Ateka and Sumayya Hassan.
He explained that the expectations of stakeholders and the Muslim community regarding the recruitment process were significant.
Ole Naado underscored that the tasks should not take more than six months if carried out diligently and in good faith.
“The prolonged delay raises concerns about the commitment of those in authority to this important matter,” he said.
He called for the prompt resumption of the panel’s activities to achieve a successful outcome.
Ole Naado represented the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) on the panel where he serves as the chairman.
He stated that SUPKEM is at liberty to appoint his replacement.
The Attorney-General, acting under the authority granted by Section 7(1) of the Waqf Act, appointed a Selection Panel tasked with identifying and nominating qualified individuals for consideration as members of the Waqf Commission.
