Woman arrested in Kisumu for scalding son over 2kgs of maize

Police in Kondele have arrested a woman for allegedly scalding her 17-year-old son with hot water after the teenager reportedly stole and sold 2 kilograms of maize from their home in Manyatta, Kisumu County.

The mother is said to have reacted violently after discovering the theft, leading to the severe punishment. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter, with the woman now in police custody.

The boy, a Form Three student at St. Loyola Magadi Secondary School, is currently receiving treatment at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) for severe burn injuries.

Kondele Location Chief Maurice Ajwang who was quoted by Citizen Digital, confirmed the incident, revealing that the mother was arrested on Thursday evening after it was determined she was responsible for the attack.

Chief Ajwang stated that the woman admitted to boiling water and pouring it on her son as punishment, which led to her immediate arrest.

She is currently being held at Kondele Police Station as investigations continue.

Police have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident, while the victim continues to receive treatment in the hospital.

Authorities have assured the public that appropriate legal action will be taken once the investigation is completed.
