Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi and his Nyeri counterpart Mutahi Kahiga will continue serving as Chair and Vice Chair of the Council of Governors (CoG).
This follows Monday’s elections held at the Council’s offices at Delta Centre, Westlands.
“We, the executive, having been duly elected to serve, hereby commit to the following priorities in strengthening the mandate of the Council and protecting the spirit of devolution,” Abdullahi said.
In the election, Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki joined the CoG Executive as the Whip, taking over from Nandi Governor Stephen Sang.
Kisii Governor Simba Arati, who previously chaired the Resource Mobilisation Committee, will now lead the Security and Foreign Relations Committee.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir was elected Chairperson of the Health Committee.
The new leadership committed to operationalizing the Devolution Training Institute, implementing the Council’s Strategic Plan (2022–2027), finalizing the transfer and costing of devolved functions, and strengthening devolution across all sectors.
It also pledged to finalise the transfer and costing of devolved functions and strengthen devolution across all sectors.
The Council of Governors is a non-partisan body established under Section 19 of the Intergovernmental Relations Act (2012).
