Isiolo: Two missing after MCA’s vehicle swept away by floods

Search and rescue operations are underway in Isiolo County following an incident on the evening of Friday, April 18, in which a vehicle was swept away by powerful floodwaters.

Authorities report that three individuals were inside a Toyota Prado when the incident occurred.

David Lemantile, the vehicle’s owner and Oldonyiro Member of County Assembly (MCA), stated that the trio was attempting to cross the KMC Bridge when they were caught in the flood.

Pictures shared online show the wrecked and muddied Prado in a gully with residents milling around it.

Police officers from Isiolo Police Station responded to the scene and confirmed that the vehicle was traveling from the Kipsing area toward Isiolo town.

The occupants have been identified as the driver, Paul Gitonga, along with 23-year-old Rajuel Lemantile and 22-year-old Boniface Muriungi.

Two of them remain missing as search efforts continue.

According to a police report, Boniface Muriungi managed to escape unscathed by climbing out through the window of the vehicle.

However, the other two occupants remain unaccounted for.

The report further indicates that the vehicle was dragged by the floodwaters for approximately two kilometers before being recovered, heavily damaged.
