There was tension on Wednesday, April 2 during a morning show on TV47 as Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu confronted his colleagues, Danson Mungatana (Tana River) and Tabitha Mutinda (Nominated) over former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's impeachment.

Senator Nyutu, a key Gachagua ally, dared his two colleagues to swear before God that they had not received Ksh10 million to support the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The discussion grew heated when Nyutu dismissed their justification for voting in favor of the impeachment, which they attributed to Gachagua’s alleged divisive politics.

"Senator Mungatana and Senator Tabitha are misleading Kenyans about Gachagua’s impeachment. Both of them voted 'yes' on the motion, and I challenge them—given all the explanations Mungatana has given—to swear before God that they did not receive Ksh10 million," Nyutu asserted.

“These other shenanigans of ‘He (Gachagua) was only talking about Mt. Kenya’ are just distractions. The major motivation is clear. Let them swear before God that they did not receive Ksh10 million each!” he further asserted.

The allegations sparked a heated argument, with Mungatana and Tabitha strongly criticizing Nyutu for his claims, which they dismissed as untrue.

As tensions escalated, the show's host, Fred Indimuli, attempted to intervene but seemed unsure how to restore order.

Mungatana and Tabitha, both staunch supporters of President William Ruto, defended themselves by insisting on a chance to respond, comparing the discussion to a Senate debate.

Mungatana took it a step further, daring Nyutu to bring a Bible, appearing ready to swear before God to refute the allegations.

“I want to tell Nyutu that I did not receive Ksh10,000… Ksh10 whatever (sic). That is a baseless claim, and as we say in the House, ‘he who asserts must prove.’ Can he bring the Bible here? In fact, if he were serious, he would have brought one so we could swear,” he declared during the show.

Nyutu was visibly displeased, insisting that it was his turn to speak and that he was not being given a fair share of airtime.

The heated exchange was eventually brought under control when Indimuli succeeded in pacifying the participants and redirecting the discussion to its initial focus.

This development coincides with Ruto’s ongoing development tour in the Mt. Kenya region, which has included a visit to Gachagua’s home turf in Nyeri.
