In a statement posted on his official X account on Sunday, June 8, 2025, Kaluma firmly dismissed the label, expressing that he does not associate with it and considers it irrelevant to the broader national conversation.

Homa Bay Town MP George Peter Kaluma has responded to comments from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who recently referred to members of the Mount Kenya region as cousins to the Ukambani community.

In a statement posted on his official X account on Sunday, June 8, 2025, Kaluma firmly dismissed the label, expressing that he does not associate with it and considers it irrelevant to the broader national conversation.

Kaluma emphasized his rejection of such labels, stressing that what truly matters is the shared fight for fairness, justice, and inclusivity in Kenya’s governance.

"Do not call me cousin; I am not one, and it does not matter. We are fellow Kenyans striving for just, equitable, and inclusive governance in our country, Kenya," the MP declared in his post.

Following former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s visit to Makueni County on Friday, June 6, 2025, Homa Bay Town MP George Peter Kaluma responded to the political remarks made during the trip.

During his visit, Gachagua rallied support for Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Addressing the residents, he urged them to back Kalonzo’s presidential ambitions and vote for Wiper candidates in all elective positions.

Gachagua asserted that Kalonzo and the Kamba community have faced long-standing marginalization and emphasized the need to restore their dignity.

“A leader is only strong if he has foot soldiers, and Kalonzo will succeed if he has leaders elected through his party. Here in Makueni, you must support Kalonzo by voting for MPs, senators, and MCAs through his Wiper party,” he stated.

He also criticized President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of failing to tackle the economic hardships confronting ordinary Kenyans, including security personnel.

Gachagua condemned Ruto for betraying the people and worsening their financial difficulties.

“We are here to inform you that the journey to unseat Ruto has started. He has interfered with the pay slip and brought shame to our people,” Gachagua declared.
