Volleyball: Malkia Strikers get new coach and technical bench

Following weeks of speculation, the new Malkia Strikers technical bench has finally been named.
Kenya Pipeline women’s volleyball head coach Geoffrey Omondi has been appointed as the new national team head coach, the KVF announced Saturday.
Omondi will be assisted by David Muthui and Esther Chepkosgei.
Omondi, who in November 2024 was named the Kenya Pipeline head coach, replaces Chepkosgei, who had been serving in an acting capacity.
"The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) is pleased to announce the appointment of the coaching staff for the upcoming season. Following a thorough selection process, the federation has entrusted the following individuals with leading and shaping the future of our teams," the statement read.
Four local coaches had thrown their hats in the ring ahead of the World Championship in Thailand. The event will be held on August 22 to September 7.
The four were current and KCB Women’s Volleyball Team coach Japheth Munala, FIVB instructor and M-PESA Foundation Academy coach Catherine Mabwi, Omondi and Nairobi Water coach John Mwaniki.
They underwent interviews last Saturday at the KVF secretariat at the Athletics Kenya offices in Nairobi.
The panel had been expected to give their recommendations on Friday 28 March to the KVF executives who then met yesterday to discuss the recommendations.
KVF also announced that Mavisi Azenga has been named the team’s technical trainer, a position previously held by the late Janet Wanja, who passed away in December.
