Kenyan Premier League club Bandari has named Moroccan Borji Mohammed the new head coach on an undisclosed deal, the Mombasa based club announced Monday.

The dockers recently parted ways with their former coach Ken Odhiambo following a less than outstanding start to life in the 2025/26 season. This followed a 1-0 home loss to Shabana at their Mbaraki Sports Club home.

Borji was unveiled by the club at at press conference in the Coastal city.

"This is a fresh challenge for me and my staff but we are looking forward to a successful time here, he told reporters in Mombasa.

Odhiambo was fired after a poor start to the 2025/26 season and coupled with what the club believed was an unsatisfactory end to the 2024/25 season, his time was called to an end by the Kenya Ports Authority hierarchy.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, club CEO Tony Kibwana confirmed the coaching changes, citing the team’s disappointing results since Odhiambo took over.

“We have appointed John Baraza as our interim head coach with immediate effect. We thank Ken Odhiambo for his contribution to the team and wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” Kibwana stated last week.

The CEO also revealed that they were actively searching for an experienced coach, potentially a foreigner, to take over the reins.

“We are looking for an experienced coach who can match the ambition of this club. Whether local or foreign, we want someone capable of leading a team of this caliber. Coach Ken tried, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out,” he added.

Odhiambo was appointed in July 2024, having previously served as assistant coach of the Harambee Stars. He led Bandari to an eighth-place finish in the 2024–2025 season, collecting 44 points from 10 wins, 14 draws, and 10 losses.

Reports suggest Odhiambo struggled to reinforce the squad during the transfer window, with only one of his preferred signings brought in. Meanwhile, Bandari lost several key players including Siraj Mohammed, Fidel Origa, and goalkeeper Bryne Odhiambo to Gor Mahia, while Farouk Shikalo joined St George SC of Ethiopia.
