In Summary

The Deputy President said the project is one of the key infrastructure plans under President William Ruto’s administration.

The long-awaited construction of the Rironi-Mau Summit dual carriageway will begin on July 1, according to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

The 170-kilometre road project, which connects Nairobi to western Kenya, will be expanded into a four-lane dual carriageway, with certain critical sections widened to six lanes.

The government has finalised a Public-Private Partnership funding deal for the Sh90 billion project, which is expected to be completed by July 2027.

"This transformative project will stimulate the economies of the Rift Valley, Nyanza, and Western regions," Kindiki said.

He was speaking in Thursday during a burial ceremony in Arimi, Molo, where families laid to rest victims of a recent road accident.

The Deputy President said the project is one of the key infrastructure plans under President William Ruto’s administration and is aimed at easing traffic, reducing deadly accidents, and boosting trade across regions.

"It will create thousands of job opportunities, with priority given to local communities, especially Nakuru County residents," he said.

Kindiki also addressed the urgent need to fix blackspots on nearby roads.

He ordered engineers from the Ministry of Roads and Transport to redesign dangerous parts of the Elburgon-Njoro Road, where 12 people lost their lives last week.

"We must implement lasting solutions to these blackspots to prevent further tragedies," he said, while delivering the President’s condolences to the affected families.

In addition to the road project, Kindiki announced plans to extend the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha to the Uganda border.

The next two phases of the railway project—phases 2B and 2C—will begin soon.

"This expansion will solidify Kenya’s role as a regional logistics hub," he noted.

Kindiki concluded by calling for peace and political unity across the country.

"The era of violent, inflammatory politics is outdated. Kenya must remain united and peaceful, even as we embrace diverse viewpoints," he urged.
