The death adds to a string of troubling deaths behind police walls.

A man suspected of livestock theft has died while in custody at Katito Police Station in Kisumu County.

The death adds to a string of troubling deaths behind police walls.

Authorities say the suspect, who had been placed in solitary confinement, allegedly took his own life by hanging himself with his vest on the cell door.

His body was transferred to the Nyando Sub-County Hospital Mortuary as investigations into the incident continue.

This case is the latest in a growing list of deaths linked to police custody, raising alarm among human rights advocates and the public.

Just days earlier, on June 10, another suspect was found dead in what police termed a suicide at Ukwala Police Station in Siaya County.

The man is said to have used his shirt to hang himself in a cell toilet.

The next day, a woman reportedly miscarried while detained at the Rwanyambo Police Post in Nyandarua County.

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing into the controversial death of teacher Albert Ojwang, who died while being held at Nairobi Central Police Station.

Three people have so far been arrested in connection with the case.

Among them is Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Samson Talaam, who was apprehended in Eldoret on June 13. Also in custody is Constable James Mukhwana, the officer on duty when Ojwang died.

He appeared in court on the same day, where detectives requested to hold him for 21 days as investigations continue.

Authorities have also questioned a CCTV technician alleged to have been paid to tamper with surveillance footage from the cells.
