Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has intensified his criticism of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, openly demanding his removal from office.

Speaking on Monday, April 14, 2025, Cherargei asserted that Governor Natembeya is unfit to continue serving, pointing to several justifications for his impeachment.

The outspoken Kenya Kwanza senator accused Natembeya of breaching multiple constitutional provisions through remarks he has made on various occasions.

Cherargei specifically branded Natembeya as a polarizing figure, alleging that the governor has been instrumental in fueling ethnic tensions across the country.

He further accused Natembeya of corruption and mismanagement within Trans Nzoia County, though he did not provide any supporting evidence for his claims.

"Governor Natembeya should be impeached for stoking tribal animosity, division, poor development and corruption allegations. These offenses are impeachable under the constitution of Kenya 2010 for violating Articles 10,27, 73, 74, 75 and 174," Cherargei wrote on X.

Cherargei's remarks came shortly after a group of leaders from Trans Nzoia voiced concern over what they described as outside meddling in the county’s affairs.

They criticized the senator, arguing that since he is neither a resident nor a registered voter in Trans Nzoia, he had no business involving himself in the county’s matters and should stay out of local issues.

"Leaders from outside should desist from dictating terms on Trans Nzoia County affairs. You are telling us that you are going to remove Natembeya; you are not a voter, not a resident of Trans Nzoia County," Eric Mwangale, one of the MCAs from the region, hit out at Cherargei.

"If you have plans in the senate to impeach Natembeya, forget about that," he added.

Governor George Natembeya has recently adopted an assertive and outspoken approach. As a first-term governor, he has consistently taken bold positions, frequently criticizing the government and calling out fellow leaders from the western region.

He has openly condemned abductions, voiced opposition to the planned police deployment to Haiti, and expressed strong criticism of the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Natembeya also affirmed his commitment to intensifying efforts aimed at lifting his community out of poverty.

"No amount of intimidation will deter me from championing Luhya unity," Natembeya declared.

"I’m committed to freeing my community from the grip of leaders who exploit them for their own selfish interests."

He added that the alliance of his political opponents—who have reportedly united in an effort to unseat him, accusing him of sowing discord within the Luhya community—will not shake his resolve or stop him from pushing for meaningful change.
