Africa's fastest man in the 100M Ferdinand Omanyala redeemed himself following a disappointing third-place finish last week by winning in the Athletics South Africa ASA meet 2 in Johannesburg South Africa Wednesday night.

Omanyala competed in the 100M at the Athletics South Africa ASA meet at the University of Johannesburg Athletics Facility.

Africa’s fastest man Omanyala, bounced back to register his first global win of the season after storming to 100M victory.

The African record-holder, 29, faced competition from South African home boys Tsebo Matsoso and Bradley Nkoana to clinch victory in 10.08 seconds.

Matsotso came home second in 10.12 seconds ahead of Nkoana, a world U-20 medalist, who timed 10.16 seconds to round up the podium.

The Kenyan champion finished third in the first ASA meet held in Tshwane last week, clocking 10.22 seconds.

He finished behind 18 year old South African sensation Karabo Letebele who crossed the line in a photo finish time of 10.18, same as Emile Erasmus the veteran sprinter who took second.

Omanyala by virtue of his personal best time of 9.77 seconds, has already qualified for the Tokyo games and his focus will be fully on building momentum, with the season just about a month old.

Tonight will see him take part in his third race of the season, having also participated in an Athletics Kenya meet in Thika in February.
