In Summary

Instead of acting swiftly as expected in a critical medical emergency, the police officers delayed for over 24 minutes before moving Ojwang from their vehicle into Mbagathi Hospital.

Fresh CCTV footage has raised serious concerns about the handling of blogger Albert Ojwang’s final moments, exposing a significant delay by police officers in facilitating immediate medical care after arriving at Mbagathi Hospital.

The surveillance video, aired by Citizen TV on Saturday, June 14, 2025, shows the police vehicle pulling into the hospital compound at exactly 1:35 a.m., but the urgency expected in a medical emergency appeared notably absent.

Instead of acting swiftly as expected in a critical medical emergency, the police officers delayed for over 24 minutes before moving Ojwang from their vehicle into Mbagathi Hospital.

CCTV footage shows the three officers, initially seated in the front seats, stepping out and lingering outside without immediately assisting the victim.

A few minutes later, they entered the facility alone but returned shortly after, with one officer appearing to make a lengthy phone call.

This pattern of going in and out of the hospital repeated over the next 10 minutes before they finally returned with a hospital stretcher.

However, the urgency still seemed absent another 10 minutes passed before the officers sought help from a hospital security guard, who then assisted in wheeling Ojwang to the ICU.

The officers remained in the ICU for approximately 10 minutes before emerging with Ojwang’s body. It was later confirmed he had arrived at the hospital already deceased.

The body was loaded back into the police vehicle, which left the premises at exactly 2:15 a.m.

The newly surfaced footage supports Mbagathi Hospital’s official account, which disputed earlier police reports claiming that Ojwang was admitted while still alive.

Additionally, the video challenges the police timeline by confirming the arrival of the police vehicle at 1:35 a.m. four minutes earlier than the previously stated 1:39 a.m. on the night of June 8, 2025.

The footage comes just a day after Mbagathi Hospital released its official statement, sharply contradicting earlier claims by police about the events leading to Ojwang’s death.

In the hospital’s account, Ojwang was brought in already deceased and was officially received at exactly midnight on Sunday, undermining police assertions that he had been rushed in for emergency care while still alive.

The hospital’s detailed medical report painted a harrowing picture of the injuries sustained by Ojwang, casting further doubt on the police account of events.

According to the report, Ojwang’s face was visibly swollen, and his body bore extensive bruising across the torso and limbs, evidence of severe physical trauma.

Nurses noted continuous bleeding from the back of his head, mouth, and eyes, alongside a deep wound in the parieto-occipital region, consistent with blunt force injuries rather than self-inflicted harm.

“The medical officer on call assessed the male and confirmed it to be a corpse brought in dead,” the report stated. “Notification of death form was filled, and police were advised to proceed to KNH police station and City Mortuary.”

This medical narrative conflicts with Inspector General Douglas Kanja’s earlier claim that Ojwang was admitted for emergency treatment at 1:39 a.m.

The hospital’s official log, however, records the arrival at 2:00 a.m., further deepening the discrepancies in the official version of events.
