Kalonzo turns down DP Kindiki’s call to join government

In a statement shared on his official X account on Sunday, June 15, 2025, Kalonzo dismissed Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s remarks as disingenuous and an attempt to sow discord within the newly united opposition front.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has flatly dismissed efforts by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to bring him into the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Kalonzo stated that he cannot align himself with a government he holds responsible for the deaths of protesting youth, including that of Albert Ojwang.
His firm stance follows remarks made by Kindiki just a day earlier, where the Deputy President expressed admiration for Kalonzo, referring to him as an elder statesman who deserves recognition and a dignified role in the country’s leadership.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Sunday, June 15, 2025, Kalonzo dismissed Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s remarks as disingenuous and an attempt to sow discord within the newly united opposition front.
“This is nothing but a distraction a weak ploy to fracture the United Opposition,” Kalonzo stated.
He firmly ruled out any possibility of working with the Kenya Kwanza leadership, accusing them of having blood on their hands, particularly that of slain Gen Z protester Albert Ojwang.
The opposition figure reaffirmed his allegiance to the public, vowing to stand by the people as the United Opposition ramps up efforts to unseat President Ruto in the 2027 elections.
He went on to accuse the government of habitually trying to distort or hijack popular causes, saying: “It’s a pattern every time Kenyans unite around a cause, this regime tries to infiltrate or manipulate the message. But Kenyans are wide awake now. These charm offensives won’t fly.”
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who has recently made overtures toward Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, expressed his willingness to reach out to him personally, emphasizing that Kalonzo deserves acknowledgment and respect.
While addressing attendees at the Empowerment Forum for micro and small-scale traders and youth and women’s groups in Wote, Makueni County, on Saturday, June 14, 2025, Kindiki made it clear that there is no bad blood between him and the former Vice President.
The Deputy President pledged to seek out Kalonzo Musyoka for discussions focused on the development needs of the region.
“I have great respect for Kalonzo, who is not only my senior-in-law but also a leader who treats others with dignity. I intend to engage him because our shared goal is to see this region thrive, just like the rest of the country,” Kindiki said.
He expressed concern that the Wiper leader might be influenced by individuals pushing divisive or destabilizing political agendas.
“As you've asked me to, I will reach out to him. We don’t want him swayed by those who seek to polarize the nation along ethnic or political lines,” he added.
